Diabetic Foot Care

Poorly controlled diabetes over a long period of time can lead to Nerve Damage (Peripheral Neuropathy), and Poor Circulation (Peripheral Vascular Disease). A yearly check-up with your podiatrist will help to detect and manage changes earlier.

General Treatment

Treatment involves nail cutting and/or callus/corn removal. This is also a good chance to discuss any other concerns you may have.

Fungal Nails

Fungal nails are often characterised by thickening, discolouration, and separation of the nail from the nail bed. A range of anti-fungal treatments are available and can be tailored to you during your appointment.

Ingrown Nails

Ingrown nails are caused by improperly trimmed toenails, curved nails, pressure from shoes or repeated trauma from daily activities. They can be managed conservatively; however recurrent cases of ingrown toenails may require a minor surgical procedure that can be performed in clinic.

Thickened Nails

Thickened and discoloured nails are not always fungal; they can be easily and painlessly thinned down.

Corn/ Callus Removal

Callus and corn can be painful and unsightly; however removal is painless and relief is immediate. Regular callus/corn removal is particularly important if you have diabetes as you are more susceptible to complications.

Foot and Ankle Pain/
Musculoskeletal Injuries

Foot and ankle pain may be due to a variety of factors; from arthritis to ankle sprains. A biomechanical assessment which involves gait analysis, muscle and joint testing can give you a clearer picture and understanding of your condition.

Orthotics

Orthotics are shoe inserts designed to support, align and improve function of the foot and lower limb. Prescription orthotics are custom made to suit your individual needs following a medical history analysis and functional assessment.

Custom Sandals and Slides

A great summer option for patients who already wear orthotics. 3D scanning and assessment allows us to give you the support you need in a style you love.

In-toeing
(Pigeon toeing)

In-toeing can be due to the big toe, lower leg or thigh bone turning in. Assessment can help to determine the cause and age-appropriate treatment.

Out-toeing
(Duck walking)

Out-toeing is common and can correct itself however can also lead to pain or discomfort. Assessment can help to determine the cause and age-appropriate treatment.

Flat Feet

Flat feet work differently to feet with ‘normal’ arches and increase the risk of injury due to increased stress on the foot, ankle, knees and hips. Orthotics and/or footwear changes are usually very effective in accommodating and supporting flat feet.

Bunions

A bunion is a bony prominence that forms on the base of your big toe. Progression can be slowed with proper fitting shoes and orthotics to better align the big toe. Surgical referral may be required in advanced cases.

Heel Pain

Heel pain is the result of too much stress on the heel bone and the surrounding tissues. The aim of treatment is to decrease the amount of stress on the foot.

Footwear

It’s also important that you have the right shoe for the activity you’re doing whether that’s work or sport. This may mean having to try a variety of different styles to accommodate your foot shape. Custom made shoes are also an option and may be required in some cases.

Home Visits

Treatment in the comfort of your home is available for patients who struggle or are unable to come to the clinic.
